This project is located in Pasadena, California. The development involves demolishing two non-historical duplex residences, consisting of four independent buildings situated on two adjacent parcels, and constructing a new two-to-four-story multifamily residential development with 18 units. The project includes one level of underground parking providing 31 parking spaces.

The site is in a transitional area, directly adjacent to commercial surroundings to the south and residential surroundings to the north. In the design, we have explored how the building can respond to these contrasting contexts through its style, massing, and form. The two-story front massing is planned to accommodate six townhouse-style units. The townhouse volume is designed with distinct characteristics to reflect a smaller residential typology, enhancing compatibility with the neighboring residential developments. Within the site, a four-story volume contains 12 apartment units. The substantial four-story volume echoes the materiality of the front townhouse units in its facade design. At the same time, horizontal design elements such as balconies, setbacks, and external corridors are used to break down the perceived bulk of the four-story structure, creating harmony with the smaller front volume.

Landscape design, as an integral component of the project, effectively activates the inner courtyard through clear and enhanced circulation paths, axial arrangements and visual corridors, as well as programmed spaces—including functional integration with the ground-floor recreation room.
