Orchid del Mar is a infilled project located at The Corona Del Mar neighborhood, locally known as the Flower Streets.
The site calls for a new two-story duplex to replace an original, smaller duplex built in the late 1940s. Each of the units offer their own individual, private entrances. The four-bedroom front unit opens directly to the front yard with large, operable glass doors. This creates an inviting façade to interact with the friendly neighborhood. The two-bedroom rear unit opens onto a Loggia, which acts as the unit’s front yard. Both units have a roof deck to offer a large outdoor, private space with views of the Pacific Ocean by careful allocation of 3rd story volumes.
The design features a streamlined pitch roof will bring a contemporary language and increased square-footage, both of which are more aligned with the current neighborhood fabric. The design max-out the indoor outdoor living opportunities that is crucial for coastal living by providing front yard, balconies, loggias and roof deck with code constrained building envelope. variety of building materials such as wood, metal panel, and plaster enhance the materiality of the project.
